Arizona: Please Contact Your Lawmakers to Support Heat Relief Funding

Arizona is facing a growing extreme heat crisis, and we need your voice now.

Over the last several years, communities across Arizona expanded cooling and heat respite centers, transportation assistance, outreach teams, and emergency heat response systems using temporary federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Those federal funds expire at the end of 2026.

Without continued investment, Arizona risks losing critical life-saving heat-relief infrastructure that communities across the state now rely on during dangerous summer temperatures.

Extreme heat is one of the leading weather-related causes of death in Arizona. More than 900 Arizonans died from heat-related causes in both 2023 and 2024. These deaths impacted housed and unhoused individuals alike, including seniors, outdoor workers, families, medically vulnerable residents, and people living without reliable cooling.

We need Arizona leaders to act now and support dedicated Extreme Heat Mitigation funding in the FY2027 Arizona State Budget.

If you think Arizona should prioritize clean energy, now is the time to speak to the Arizona Corporation Commission!

For 20 years, Arizona utility companies have been intentional about incorporating renewables into our state energy profile because they have been required to. However, the ACC is currently looking to get rid of this requirement. So, we’re asking you to share your opinion on the matter, speak out against this proposal to repeal renewable energy standards, and show the ACC we're paying attention to how utilities are responding to the climate crisis.

Election Protection Arizona Poll Monitor Training

Various dates/times, August 21 - September 16 via Zoom

Join Election Protection Arizona (EPAZ) to help answer voter questions during the CD-7 election on September 23 across Tucson, Yuma, San Luis, Bisbee, Tolleson, Avondale, Gila Bend and more! Election Protection Arizona volunteers act as nonpartisan poll monitors and help answer voting process questions in real time. This training is virtual through Zoom and will last approximately 1 hour. Completing this training is a prerequisite to serve as a poll monitor. Upon completion of the training volunteers will be allowed to sign up for an in-person shift on Election Day.

AFN is working in partnership with EPAZ to ensure that all voters have an equal opportunity to vote and have that vote count.

Environmental Day at the Capitol 2023

As part of our efforts to create an Arizona that celebrates, respects, and protects all people, we are working with the Governor's Office to obtain an executive order that would extend current non-discrimination protections for state employees to include gender identity, and extend current non-discrimination requirements for state contractors and vendors to include sexual orientation and gender identity.
