A Call to Courage and Justice in Troubled Times
In a time of unprecedented backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion, and with deepening divides over race, identity, and power in America, the call to decenter whiteness in our churches is more urgent than ever. Across the nation, we see attempts to erase the truth of systemic racism, marginalize already vulnerable communities, and stoke fear and division. As followers of Christ, we are called to stand boldly against such forces, embodying the radical love and justice of Jesus in our words, actions, and faith communities.
This is holy work. It will not be easy, and it will not be quick. But it is the work to which we are called. And in doing it, we may discover that the Spirit of God is already leading the way, calling us to a deeper understanding of justice, a more expansive love, and a fuller expression of our faith. Will we have the courage to follow?
Let this be the year we answer that call. Together. Boldly. Faithfully. For the sake of the Gospel and the world we are called to serve.
Our Objective:
Deepen congregational understanding of how whiteness and white supremacy have shaped society, church life and theology. The emphasis is on building a shared vocabulary, acknowledging the realities of racism and structural inequality, and creating a foundation for ongoing transformation. This work sets the stage for deeper engagement by increasing knowledge, empathy, and readiness for challenging conversations and actions.
