The Healing of Memories for Veterans Workshop is a two day overnight workshop held at the Franciscan Renewal Center. It was created by Father Michael Lapsley, an Anglican missionary priest . In 1990 , he suffered the loss of his hands and the sight in one eye from a letter bomb that was sent to him in Zimbabwe by a supporter of the proapartheid government in South Africa. He later founded the Healing of Memories Institute (healing-memories.org).

The workshop was designed to help victims of emotional, psychological and spiritual wounds inflicted by war, human rights abuses and other traumatic circumstances. The workshop has been held for over 70 veterans in Arizona with excellent results. Veterans who attend feel that the experience has been a major step in their healing process. The following quotes are typical of the reaction of veterans after the workshop:

“It (the workshop) definitely gave me hope and identified and gave me awareness of where to go from here and where I should focus.”

“I have a better grasp of my experiences from my last deployment and the negative hold they have had on me. I feel as if I have made progress in working through these experiences, owning what I am, letting go of the rest and moving towards freedom and healing.”

Pre-registration required. Call Mike Wold, 651.687.9767.- Lives in Carefree.

This program is provided free to veterans through a grant from the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation in honor of Father Ray Bucher, OFM.
