Media and Communications Specialist & Pastoral Assistant

Key staff position with a progressive evolving Christian church, will oversee all media platforms through which the mission and marketing of the church and congregation is communicated. Position works closely with the Lead Pastor in carrying out various aspects of church programming.


Ideal candidate will understand church culture and possess a demonstrated ability to work collegially in a multi-staff setting. Candidate will have experience in all current social media platforms and a background in writing and copy editing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Internet web-based communication including overseeing website, creating and maintaining content, hyperlinks, writing copy, creating graphics, video and photos to tell and articulate mission of the church.

  • Generate a monthly marketing report showing analytics for website and social media.

  • Primary writer and editor for content /posts and articles across all media platforms (web, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, order of worship and messaging), and monthly digital newsletters.

  • Multi-media services assisting with the production of the weekly video blog broadcast/livestream and/or podcast for YouTube and website posting. Assisting with the production and distribution of videos/podcast for weekly worship and internal video bulletin boards. Generate and update QR code(s) for multi-media and print collateral.

  • Attendance at Sunday worship (10 am) three Sundays a month (negotiable) to learn and remain connected to the pulse of the congregation and determine the effectiveness of communications for the church community.

  • Attend special holiday services such as Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Easter and help with coordinating volunteers to assist in event preparation.

  • Willingness to learn how to operate various types of Audio/Video equipment and be able to help troubleshoot and solve issues that may arise on Sunday mornings.

  • Coordinate with Lead Pastor to ensure ministry/committee announcements are communicated on Sunday mornings during the worship service.

  • Receptive nature to hear and address concerns and comments from congregants and ministries/committees and share with the appropriate parties and/or church leadership.

  • Assist Lead Pastor in the logistics of church programming.

Qualifications:

  • Computer software and program proficiency including MS Office Suite, website design and management (WordPress experience preferred), Emma or Constant Contact Email platform (or similar), Canva, Adobe InDesign, and ProPresenter experience preferred. Proficient in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and other social media programs such as Loomly (or similar media calendar tool).

  • Excellent interpersonal and writing communication skills. Ability to collaborate both one-on-one and to diverse groups. Manage multiple projects on parallel and competing deadlines. Flexible, creative, reliable and trustworthy.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or journalism preferred.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience preferably in a non-profit setting.

  • Position is full-time, 40 hours per week with benefits after 90 days (vacation, medical, and pension).
