JPANet: Set Refugee Admissions to 200,000 for FY23

September 17, 2022 in Faith In Action

Everyone deserves to live in safety, and investments in the U.S. resettlement program are vital to welcome people from all parts of the world who are in urgent need of resettlement and protection. Right now we are facing the largest global refugee crisis in recorded history, with unprecedented numbers of asylum seekers, and many millions awaiting asylum decisions. Over 100 million people across the globe have been forced to flee their homes, including over 31 million refugees.

Soon the President will set the number of refugees the United States will receive next year – called the Presidential Determination (PD). To demonstrate our strong commitment to refugee resettlement please join us in asking the President to set the admissions cap at 200,000 and to hold meaningful consultations with Congress before the end of the fiscal year in support of rebuilding the U.S. Refugee Admissions program. An admissions goal of 200,000 will signal to the world that the United States is serious about restoring moral leadership and will show allies that we’re committed to doing our part.

Refugee resettlement saves lives, encourages other countries to keep their doors open to people needing protection, and promotes regional stability and global security. As a community of faith, we cannot turn our backs on those refugees we have pledged to welcome - and must do all we can to keep that welcome open.
