The stories of RIP Medical Debt’s beneficiaries, financially burdened individuals for whom our nonprofit has abolished debt, illuminate the stress and stigma that comes with medical debt. Medical debt doesn’t come down to a personal failure. Rather, the fault lies with a system that perpetuates harm to individuals every day. This narrative shift is essential and serves as a guiding principle for this summit and RIP Medical Debt’s everyday work.

With a possible recession looming and the impacts of COVID-19 ever present, the need for change grows daily. The summit will address the affordability crisis in this country, with its disproportionate effect on historically marginalized communities, and discuss the necessary policy improvements to getting people access to the health care they need and deserve.

The 2022 Policy Summit convenes diverse perspectives on solutions for ending medical debt and creating a health care system that looks to center the mental, physical, and financial well-being of patients, no matter their background. Our panelists and moderators are industry pioneers who have seen the impacts of a broken system. Such expertise will drive powerful conversation and dynamic cross-sector collaboration.
