The Southwest Conference endorses the Arizona Fair Elections Act

June 23, 2022 in Faith In Action

The Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ is pleased to endorse the Arizona Fair Elections Act (AFEA) a proposed 2022 Arizona ballot measure that removes barriers and ensures equal access to voting.

Specifically, the AFEA

  •  protects every Arizonan’s right to vote by mail;

  •  protects voting access for Tribal voters and voters with disabilities;

  •  gives people more time and options for voting;

  •  makes voter registration more accessible and accurate;

  •  protects voters rights to receive needed assistance including offering food and water to voters waiting in line.

The ballot measure safeguards elections from partisan interference by preventing the state legislature from overturning presidential election results, keeping our ballots private, and safeguards voters’ right to pass our own laws. It also prohibits lobbyists from giving certain gifts to politicians, lowers contribution limits from individuals and PACs, and offers “Clean Elections” candidates a more competitive opportunity.
