Restore Asylum Now Rally

March 19, 2022 in Faith In Action

MONDAY, MARCH 21, 2022 AT 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM MST

ICE Field Office, 2035 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004-1553, United States

From the ACLU:

In solidarity with Los Revolucionarios (migrant-led organizers) in Nogales, Sonora, we are marking the infamous 2-year anniversary of Title 42 with a rally calling for its end! Join us at Phoenix's ICE Field Office on Monday, March 21 to demand the Biden Administration restore asylum NOW!

In a decision issued on March 4, 2022, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals handed a major victory to families seeking protection from persecution and torture in their home countries. The policy of using “Title 42,” an obscure public health law, to override our asylum laws was created by Trump but has been embraced and defended in court by the Biden administration. The ruling makes it clear that the government cannot expel families to danger under the guise of a sham public health order.

In the wake of this ruling, the Biden administration should immediately end the Title 42 policy, uphold refugee law, and provide all children, families and adults seeking protection access to a safe and fair asylum process. The Biden administration’s decision to embrace and defend this Trump-era policy was a travesty of justice. The administration should not appeal this ruling or take other steps that would compound the violence and suffering already inflicted by Title 42.
