Stop the Impending Funding Crisis for Arizona Schools

Rapid Response - Urge Legislators To Keep Schools Open

Leaders and Clergy--

It has become known as a “Ticking Time Bomb.” If the State Legislature does not act by March 1, the constitutional spending limit for school districts requires schools to halt spending on April 1. We are learning that a path forward is possible.

Your calls and emails to legislators will make a difference at this critical time.

A bipartisan group of legislators has written an op-ed in the Capitol Times ("Let's Defuse Schools' Ticking Time Bomb Now", pdf linked here).  And there are two bills, introduced today by Republican and Democratic leadership in the House (HCR2039) and Senate (SCR1050), that would allow schools to exceed the cap by a limited amount.

A 2/3 vote of both House and Senate will be required, so every legislator is important.

Learn more:  Read our "Explainer" on the VIP website.

Spread the Word:  Join us for a Civic Academy or host one in your institution.

Take Action Today:
Call on Legislators to
(1) Support the bipartisan effort to lift the Spending Cap by March 1 and
(2) Refer an amendment to the ballot to remove this antiquated provision.
