Reminder: AZ Legislature Putting Public Education at Risk

February 01, 2022 in Faith In Action

From Pima County Interfaith:

The Arizona legislature is putting public education at risk again. Please attend a new civic academy that will inform you about two critical issues happening now:

  • Public education spending cap: If the legislature fails to override the cap by March 1, Tucson area public schools will be forced to enact budget cuts of over $100 million beginning in April. Find out how much your school district will lose and what you can do to stop this travesty.

  • SB 1828 trickery: Last summer we helped collect over 160,000 signatures for a referendum to place this flat tax bill that would gut the state budget on the ballot. The referendum, now known as Prop 307, is slated for the November election. But legislative leaders plan to repeal SB 1828 and replace it with a slightly changed law that would make Prop 307 irrelevant, trampling the citizens’ right to a referendum.

Multiple civic academies will take place via zoom. REGISTER NOW for one of the sessions:

Wednesday, Feb 2, 6:30 pm

Saturday, Feb 12, 10 am

Flyers are available to download and print for distribution to other concerned individuals.
