The Red Cross needs YOUR help

I am writing to you today to request your assistance spreading the word about the need for volunteers to support the American Red Cross response to disasters like Hurricanes Laura and Sally and the wildfires that are raging out west. As you are aware 2020 has presented us with a series of unprecedented disasters with the added challenge of operating during a global pandemic. The Red Cross is up for the challenge to respond to disasters both here in Arizona and across the country, but we need the help of our community to bolster our available workforce.

We have a critical need for volunteers who are licensed healthcare professionals as well as people to help with sheltering. We are operating a little differently this year to provide the safest environment possible for our workforce and the clients we serve, but our mission to provide shelter to people displaced by disasters remains the same.

Arizonans who volunteer to meet this need will be provided with the following:

  • Training and coaching for the selected sheltering or health services role. Training can be completed in as little as 4 hours!

  • Transportation to the disaster assignment

  • Lodging and meals during the disaster assignment

Interested volunteers can sign up at www.redcross.org/VolunteerToday

Be sure to review the CDC guidance for people who are at higher risk for severe illness, consult your health care provider, and follow local guidance. The number one priority of the American Red Cross is the health and safety of our employees, volunteers, blood donors and recipients, and the people we serve.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support of the American Red Cross in Arizona. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or need additional information about this opportunity.

Stay safe out there,

Beth Boyd | Regional Disaster Officer
