Morning Connection: A Recovery Spirituality in Action Ministry

by Gordon Street III, Commissioned Minister

What began at the start of COVID as a simple way to stay connected has grown into a daily outreach reaching over 130 people across the country. Each morning, I share an inspirational image and a short “Thought for you and me”—a small reminder of hope, presence, and connection. In those early days, I often closed with the words, “Stay safe, stay strong, live life,” and sometimes, “Together we can.” Those words were as much for me as they were for anyone receiving them.

What I didn’t fully realize at the time was how deeply this practice would shape my own spiritual life. While I set out to offer encouragement, I found myself being encouraged, grounded, and reminded daily of God’s quiet presence. This simple act of showing up became a spiritual discipline—one that continues to center me in gratitude and purpose.

Along the way, something even more meaningful happened. For some, these daily messages opened the door to deeper connection and conversation—moments of real ministry. I’ve received messages like, “I needed that today,” “I look forward to your messages,” and sometimes just a simple, powerful, “Amen.” Each one is a reminder that even the smallest offering of light can reach someone right on time.

I also continue to remind myself that the heart of this ministry is not about response or affirmation, but about being a consistent source of hope. To simply show up, to share light, and to trust that it matters—whether seen or unseen.

Grateful for each of you who pause here. These simple moments of connection remind me we are never walking alone.
