Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with a great mixture of sadness, readiness, and joyful anticipation of a new era of life, that I’ve discerned that it’s time for me to retire from my Associate Conference Minister position with the Southwest Conference.
Off and on since 1998 I have served in various capacities on the Southwest Conference staff, both part-time adjunct staff, and in these last 6 years, as full-time ACM. My ministry with you and the rest of the Conference and various staffs has been a source of great joy and purpose in my life and in my vocational call, even as I’ve also served in pastoral positions in the Conference. I love this conference in so many ways and have felt deep appreciation and gratitude for the support, the challenges, the opportunities and growth I’ve experienced here, among you and from you! And now, feeling deeply mentored (unknowingly) by our wonderful group of retired clergy, I’ve approached this discernment and decision with growing eagerness and hope.
I’m eager to step into an era of life (“Falling Upward” as Richard Rohr terms it), that I anticipate will open new paths of spiritual experience, expression and relationship with God, nurturing my Truest Self as I move into “elderhood.”
Per my call agreement, at this point, I’m giving the 90 days notice, and would like to conclude my employment on January 31, 2024. I’m happy to negotiate any flexibility in the timeframe that may be needed or deemed beneficial to the Conference.
Again, my friends and colleagues, I am so grateful for these years I’ve been privileged to serve with and among you, to grow with you and pray with you, and be the Beloved Community as best we could by God’s will and grace!
With deep gratitude and blessing,
Rev. Dr. Barb Doerrer-Peacock
Associate Conference Minister
Dr. Barb’s service has been invaluable, and we plan to celebrate her and her ministry, offering a service of release.
