Shepherd of the Hills will host the 15th biannual refugee baby shower in their Fellowship Hall on Saturday, April 25, having been instrumental in the continuation of this event by not only hosting the baby shower but also providing support by storing the shower items on campus. They'll welcome 25 refugee moms for a few hours of education, food, and friendship. Each expectant mom will leave the shower with all of the items needed to welcome their baby including a baby bed, car seat, clothing for one year, baby blankets, a stroller, and many more items. First Congregational Prescott's memorial garden update: Grading of the area is nearly complete. Many underground pipes were discovered, and new pipes were added for drainage. An electric conduit was installed to run a fountain and irrigation lines will be dug and made ready for when plants are added in May/June.
We are close to building the planting beds and having the post holes dug for a privacy fence. A resident bee hive under the shed will be relocated to a new home by a local beekeeper.
Along with a memorial sign and a large space for shrubs and flowers, the finished area will have crushed and compacted gravel, creating a pleasant, private outdoor space for church members of all ages.
The following report is from Rev. Jackie Parks, Pastor of South Scottsdale Presbyterian Church, which rents Scottsdale Congregational's building for Community House on Mondays. It covers the last 6-weeks.
We are pleased to share with you all the positive impact your space is having on the unhoused in South Scottsdale. It has been a smooth transition and our friends are loving the time they are able to spend on campus.
Phoenix Rescue Mission has been able to meet with so many people and have helped 5 people get off the streets since we began meeting in this new space. We have 40 currently in our work force development with 25 regularly working with Pastor Dave in local jobs.
We are currently serving 70-85 people each week, with at least 5-10 new friends that join us each week.
Thanks so much!
Message from Rev. ellie at The Good Shepherd UCC: Since our Adult Forum with Charles Pyl with Second Chance Tucson and the cookie drive for the Transwomxn inside Florence Prison, many of you have asked how to become engaged in the work around prisons that is Rev. ellie's personal ministry. Well, here is just one of the ways! Once or twice a month, Rev. Ellie goes into Perryville Women's prison in Goodyear, AZ to conduct worship services, and interfaith religious text studies through St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Litchfield Park. While they host this important work inside the women's prison, they also have a re-entry mentoring program - one that can be a virtual program where you can mentor from wherever you find yourself geographically. Email Rev. Ellie revelliegsucc@gmail.com with how to become involved, or follow the link: https://bridgesreentry.org/mentor
