The Scottsdale Congregational Council of Stewards has approved a trial rental arrangement allowing South Scottsdale Presbyterian Church (SSP) to use SCUCC facilities twice weekly beginning February 1. SSP will hold Sunday worship and youth gatherings on campus, and on Mondays will operate Community House, a program supporting people experiencing homelessness by offering meals, showers, clothing, haircuts, caseworker assistance, and a safe resting space using Bond Hall, the fenced yard, and a shower trailer. The Council strongly believes God is asking them to put a comma at the end of the list of their current mission programs by adding one more form of service.
A family at Scottsdale Congregational put together small bags each with two bright orange ICE whistles in them and gave them out last Sunday.
Church of the Painted Hills is helping Interfaith Community Services collect thousands of pounds of pasta and sauce during February to feed those in need.
From Rev. Paul Whitlock, senior pastor at The Church of the Palms:
One of the ways we can stay active in our current world is through praying. Celebrating the life and work of MLK, Jr., we have scheduled eight days of prayers for our social justice ministry. Holy One, as we begin this time of prayer, help us be the light amid the shadows of life. Amen.
