Jottings 8/25/2025

August 23, 2025 in Church News

Twenty faithful volunteers from Desert Garden UCC joined 74 others for the Surprise Community Day of Service. They packed produce with St.. Mary's Food Bank, a ministry of their Open and Affirming outreach. We pray with all who are experiencing food insecurity.

Check this out! Thirty people coming to discuss politics and faith at Church of the Red Rocks. This week’s focus was poverty and our welfare system.

We rejoice with two of our conference churches celebrating birthdays in September.  First Congregational in Prescott celebrating 145 years and United Church of Santa Fe celebrating 45 years together!

United Church of Santa Fe has contracted with a company that will transform an area of the church grounds into a natural play area. Unlike traditional playgrounds with structured, human-made equipment, this playground will incorporate materials and ideas from nature, such as big rocks, logs, and plants to encourage kids to explore and problem-solve.

Shepherd of the Hills will be starting a new book in September for its Wednesday book group. For the first time it will be a book of poetry, 44 Poems on Being With Each Other, by Padraig OTuama.

Pastor Rock’s premise is that, one of the best forms of resistance to today’s chaos is immersing ourselves in art and culture. Poetry reminds us of beauty, resilience, and possibility.

The Good Shepherd UCC in Sahuarita is handing out “Make America Kind” buttons!

The Congregational Church of the Valley Council has voted that this year's mission project will be "Foster Your Future." This Fountain Hills 501C organization has successfully sponsored young adults that have aged out of the foster system. The founder of Foster Your Future will present a short slide show about the organization during the  9/7 worship service.

Church of the Red Rocks, as part of their efforts to grow the church, is creating a new tagline. Folks will be voting this week on their favorite. Which would you choose? I’ll reveal the winner when it is announced!

  • A Place to Belong, A Place to Become

  • Come As You Are, Leave Transformed

  • Hope Lives Here!

Resistance in Action: A Social Justice Resource Fair
