The Sun Lakes United Church of Christ is looking for a Music Director for 2021-2022 (September thru August). We need someone who is familiar with both traditional and contemporary church music and the liturgical seasons. The director will be responsible for all the music at the Worship Service.
Our regular church services are held in the Sun Lakes, AZ Chapel. Prior to COVID-19, services were held on Sunday mornings from 11:15 am-12:15 pm; since COVID restrictions were imposed, we have chosen to hold services on Saturday at 4:00 pm. We are having on-going discussions to determine which time slot to retain in the Fall. Additional services include Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve and any other services agreed upon by the director and the Minister.
The church has a voice and a bell choir which meet normally during the fall and winter while members are present in Sun Lakes. The director will select choral anthems and bell choir music, direct both ensembles and provide piano or organ accompaniment during the church service. There is an electronic piano available. A wealth of music is available in the church music library. Rehearsals for each of the choirs are 1 hour and 15 minutes when members are in Sun Lakes; the day and time can be determined in cooperation with the choirs. Performing choirs also rehearse just prior to the service. We expect the voice choir might sing twice a month; the bell choir performs up to four times a year. During the summer, the Music Director will need to provide accompaniment for the hymns, prelude, postlude and piano/organ anthems.
Our pay for this position is based on $70 per service or rehearsal. We anticipate the Music Director’s time commitment will be a minimum of one performance at the service plus one or two rehearsals per week when choirs are available. Additional funds are available for instrumentalists or soloists when appropriate.
