Many churches will hear stories from participants of the Witness at the Border program that took place last week in southern Arizona. Over 100 clergy, church members, national staff, and friends from other denominations came to learn and witness. If you have the opportunity, listen to them.

United Church of Sun City has started a monthly feature in its newsletter- a spotlight on one of its members. Each article hopes to foster new friendships in the church community.

First Congregational of Albuquerque is exploring the feasibility of joining with other churches to hire a full time social worker who will assist those folks who come to the churches asking for help. The social worker will be associated with ABQ Heading Home, a community outreach program.

Encanto is starting up its tutoring program for this year. Qualified adults are volunteering to help students with any subject. Dessert is provided as incentive!

Encanto will celebrate its second annual Encanto Kennel Club Dog Show and Pet Parade on Sept 8th at 10 AM. Awards include “Most Open and Affirming,” “Most Dog-like Non-dog,” “Least Judgmental,” “Most Extravagant Welcome,” and others.

Operation Back Pack starts Sept 12th at The Good Shepherd in Sahuarita. Volunteers pack weekend snacks for about 300 area students to supplement family meals.

Church of the Red Rocks will host a public forum on homelessness on Sept 6th at 5PM. Presentations by several local service providers will be followed by discussion and a Q and A.

Desert Garden’s men’s group has 11 volunteers that kept a close watch on 58 houses this summer while residents escaped the heat. All went well up until this last bout of monsoons that left downed branches and roof damage! But repairs and clean up is underway. What a valuable service!

Scottsdale UCC has spent several months revising and updating its ONA statement. The new statement will be voted on by the congregation on Sept 9th.

First Congregational of Prescott has hired Rev Marti Garrison as its new Dir. of Christian Education. A member bequest will pay her salary for the first year. Welcome!

If you happen to be in Sedona on the weekend of Sept 23rd, enjoy a Violin Duo concert at Church of the Red Rocks at 2PM. Both violinists are professionally trained and world known, Tricia Park and Taylor Morris. Tricia is a Juilliard grad and has played with orchestras around the world. Taylor graduated from Harvard and toured with a fiddle group. Sounds like some fun arrangements!

Join us in gratitude for the generosity of United Church of Santa Fe members and friends, who raised over $7,000 to support the ministries of care and compassion offered by Good Shepherd United Church of Christ in Sahuarita, Arizona and Los Samaritanos.

Shadow Rock UCC will host United Blood Services' Bloodmobile on September 23.
