Church Jottings

The youth of Black Mountain UCC will assemble and deliver A “Valentine’s Day party in a Box” for the 150 women and children of Sojourner Center, a shelter for victims of domestic violence. 

Pastor of United Church of Angel Fire, Richard Safford, is starting a sabbatical leave.  Rev. Peggy Trott will be covering during his absence. 

A partner of Church of the Beatitudes, DUET, is looking for volunteers. Duet serves the elder community with a variety of services. As a volunteer, you would be matched with an isolated adult who longs for a visitor or needs help with small errands. Visit duetaz.org to sign up for a volunteer orientation. 

Scottsdale UCC has a “Box” in the narthex and sponsors a monthly mission collection.  This month they are collecting items for the Justa Center, a day resource center for homeless seniors. 

Desert Palm has a ukulele group that plays for special occasions.  How fun is that!

First Congregational in Albuquerque is holding a “Love in Action” gathering to celebrate Valentine’s Day where attendees will take part in several service projects.

First Albuquerque also collects loose change which is then used to purchase bus passes for people who stop by the church needing help. 

Desert Garden hosts a Wedding Anniversary Celebration event honoring those couples celebrating their anniversaries ending in “5” or “0” starting with the the 50th!


Events

Day at the Legislature:  Several UCC and Unitarian members will take part in this annual event on Feb 18th. Tell your state legislators what your priorities are.  Contact Jo Vredenberg at jimjovred@gmail.com for help in registering. 

Tempe Empty Bowls is being held on Sat, Feb 24th at the Tempe Library complex from 11-2.  Bowls, made by students and professional artists, sell for $10 each and each purchaser gets a soup lunch provided by Whole Foods.  Proceeds  benefit Tempe Community Action and United Food Bank.  (I’ve gone for years and have decorated half my home with bowls of all shapes and sizes - Holly)
