Church Jottings 11/3/2018

Several Tempe area churches are sponsoring”Community Conversations” for folks to meet others and learn about their lives. Nov 18th at noon at Dayspring UMC and Nov 28th at 7PM at Temple Emmanuel.

Many of our churches across the conference participated in community gatherings of support at their local Jewish temples this past week. We truly lived out our goal “that they all may be one”.

Members of Church of the Beatitudes are encouraged to read “The End of White Christian America” by Robert Jones as part of their One Book, One Church program. Pastor Tony will lead a discussion of the book on Nov 13th.

Rincon will take a much needed break from its Asylum Seeker Housing program after Nov 9th until after Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, the church will assess and retool its program and determine its future iteration. Thank you, Rincon!

Casas Adobes will hold a Taize Service at 6:30 on Nov 8th. Come experience an alternative worship style.

Desert Garden will host a free Organ Concert on Nov 11th at 3PM that will be a Salute to Veterans.

Church of the Palms will offer a seminar on “Surviving the Holidays”. The focus is to help those in grief for whom the holidays are not a happy time. What to do about traditions? How to survive social events? How to find hope for the future? These questions and many more. Nov 17th from 8:30-11.

The Restoration Project will have a Volunteer Training on Nov 11th from 1:30-3:30 at Neighborhood Ministries, 1918 W Van Buren, Phx. This training is for volunteers to participate in the Greyhound bus terminal ministry of providing hospitality and outreach to those immigrants being released from detention.

Church of the Red Rocks learned about 22 homeless children in the local school district in need of winter clothing. The church has jumped in with collections of coats, gloves, scarves, shoes, jeans, and long sleeved shirts!

Church of the Painted Hills raised $1815 with twelve walkers for the CROP WALK. Congratulations!
