Ktizo UCC needs help at their summer Hydration Center for the homeless

June 30, 2017

from Susan Felt, Ktizo United Church of Christ:

Please consider assisting Ktizo United Church of Christ with your donations of time, jars of peanut butter and jelly, loaves of bread, and money as part of Ktizo’s summer Hydration Center for the homeless.

Ktizo is a City of Phoenix designated Hydration Center. That means on Tuesdays and Thursdays when temperatures top 100-degrees, we open our doors from noon to 6 p.m. so that the homeless can find relief from the heat, have water, a sandwich, watch a movie or sleep during the heat of the day.  This summer has broken previous summer’s attendance records as temperatures break records.

We need volunteers who could help make sandwiches, set up, clean up, be available to just talk to our homeless guests and to help us this summer when we try to open the church more than Tuesdays and Thursdays on weeks when temperatures climb above 110.  If we have more volunteers we can open our doors on more than two days a week.  This is going to be a long summer.

Please spread the word to your church members, friends and colleagues who wouldn’t mind giving three hours, either from noon to 3 or from 3 to 6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We are also happy to receive donations of peanut butter, jelly and bread. We are having nearly 30 people seek relief from heat each time we open our doors.

For more information and to volunteer, please contact Becky Boston at Bostonbecky2@gmail.com or at 602-920-2726.

The church is located at 8724 N. 35th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ.  The church is on the west side of 35th Avenue, south of Dunlap.  The entrance for the Hydration Center is at the red door, off the parking lot.

Thank you so much for spreading the word about this volunteer opportunity.
