Are you someone who has done significant anti-racism work? Do you ever wonder – “How could I get better at recognizing racism when I see it?” “How could I get better at knowing what to do about it?” Then this Community of Practice may be for you. As a group of both lay and clergy UCC members we meet monthly on Zoom from September through May on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 5:30 PM Arizona time.
Here is what one member of the group has to say about the experience:
Our sessions begin and end with moments of prayer, silence, and reflection. We hold each other as we begin to remember and tell each other about those times when we failed to see and respond appropriately to racism. We used those moments as case studies, played the roles and practiced different outcomes. It did not take us long to come to trust each other and hold each other as we reviewed these painful moments. I came out of the work so far, more aware and more competent and courageous, though far from finished with the process. Being accountable to each other was important in those moments when I wanted to shy away from something I knew I needed to do, but which would be emotionally difficult. - Rev. Randi Walker
Each September we welcome new members who would like to be part of the work. You can apply to join this community of practice here. NOTE: Existing members must re-apply.
