Medicaid is under attack. A proposed $880 billion cut to the federal Medicaid budget could have devastating consequences for the most vulnerable in our communities—and serious ripple effects across Arizona’s economy. Join Shepherd of the Hills on Monday, May 19 at 6:30 PM for a Civic Academy hosted by members of our congregation. We’ll break down what these proposed cuts really mean, who they’ll impact, and what you can do to protect health care access and stand with your neighbors. All are welcome.
Reminder from Shepherd of the Hills: In a rapidly changing and volatile world — where the latest news raises more questions rather than providing answers — the United Church of Christ’s General Minister and President/CEO, the Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson, shares her thoughts and concerns in a new blog, “On My Mind Today.”

I just love this idea! Scottsdale UCC members can put their name in a box for a monthly drawing. The winner of the drawing is given $100 to donate to a cause of their choice. Kay N’s name was recently selected from the Jesus Beyond box, and she chose to give the $100 to Higher Octave Healing, a non-profit music therapy organization in Tempe, Arizona. They are dedicated to increasing the quality of life and promoting empowerment. To achieve this, they provide a variety of therapy, research, resource, and community outreach programs.
Congregational Church of the Valley will switch to their summer schedule the first Sunday of June, worshipping at the Church of the Beatitudes during June, July, and August. Members can enjoy lunch afterwards with Pastor Sandi. Worship at the Beatitudes provides a different and worthy experience.
However, an informal worship service on June 8, Pentecost Sunday, the church universal’s birthday, will be available at CCoV. Bring some brunch food to share, and Pastor Sandi will bring the birthday cake!
Order your UCC baseball cap and visor. The gray baseball cap features the blue circle comma or rainbow circle comma on front panel with embroidered “United Church of Christ" on back. White visor features the blue circle comma or rainbow circle comma logo with embroidered “United Church of Christ." Both are ideal for outdoor services, vigils, demonstrations, marches, or less formal gatherings and events. Order here
News from the National UCC: A lawsuit organized on behalf of two dozen religious groups is working on the next steps in pursuing justice against the Trump administration. Organizers are seeking to have the Sensitive Locations designation reinstated. Read an update.
