Retired Clergy, you are invited to ANY ONE OF THREE lunches to be held in October especially for retired clergy. One will be held in Phoenix, one in Albuquerque, and one in Tucson.

In the past, we’ve held a Retired Clergy and Spouse Luncheon once-every 1 ½ years, usually in Phoenix.  I recognized that because of one location, it limited participation to those who could get there, and was mostly social in nature.

Last year we held a “Best Practices and Parameters for Retired Clergy” session in Sun City and heard from those participants that they were interested in having more vehicles/opportunities to get together for enrichment and ongoing support.  So, these three lunches are an attempt to get folks together, and perhaps open a door for more ongoing connection.  Also, as I hope you all received, the email regarding ordained ministerial standing outlined new transitions and implications for retired clergy from our new Manual on Ministry.  I want to take this opportunity to help interpret these changes face to face and answer questions. I’ve also invited the current Pension Board Annuitant Visitors to be present.

The three lunches will be:

PHOENIX:  Beatitudes Campus Life Center, Tuesday Oct. 15, 11 am to 12:30pm

FOLLOWING lunch, we will hold the ALTERNATIVE Healthy Ministry Module #1-Retired which will go until approximately 3 pm.

ALBUQUERQUE: Church of the Good Shepherd (tentatively), Friday Oct. 18, Noon to 2 pm.

TUCSON: Casas Adobes Cong. UCC, Tuesday Oct. 22, Noon to 2 pm.

As outlined in the email from Aug. 22 regarding Ordained Ministerial Standing,  for those retired clergy who want to keep their active standing (as opposed to Exempt Standing), they can take the alternative Module 1 along with the other regular Modules #2, #3, and #4.   More sessions of Alt-Module 1: Retired will be held in the coming years in different places. So, if you are not from Phoenix or Northern AZ, you can wait until it is held in Tucson or Albuquerque.

IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE or SEE the Aug. 22 email, please let me know. I can either resend it (specify your email address, in case the one we have is incorrect) or send you  a copy of it through the regular mail.

Registration for the lunches is available through your SW Conference Portal, or by clicking the button below.

If you have not yet created an account in our system, you’ll have the opportunity to do so by clicking on the “create an account” link on that page.

The lunches are complimentary for you as retired clergy.  In the past, spouses have also been included.  Due to budgeting constraints however, the cost for a spouse will be $10.    If you want to attend the Alt-Module 1-Retired, the cost of that module is $10, plus the Faith Trust Institute Healthy Boundaries #201 book for $20, if you don’t have one already. (You do need it for the other Modules as well.)

We hope these gatherings will be a time to meet and greet others of our clergy in retirement, and perhaps also make connections with those who might want to meet more regularly on your own for fellowship, learning, enrichment, and/or support.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! I’ll look forward to seeing you at one of the lunches in October!

Blessings,

Rev. Dr. Barbara Doerrer-Peacock, Associate Conference Minister
