Jottings 6/8/2026

June 06, 2026 in Church News

It’s Pride Month, and the UCC is celebrating in a big way. Here are some resources and ideas for engaging with Pride within the sanctuary and beyond.

First Congregational Prescott’s youth group is going on a Service Learning Trip! From June 11–14, their youth group will participate in a meaningful service learning trip to learn firsthand about the work of the Sahuarita–Green Valley Samaritans. Hosted by Pastor Randy Mayer at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Sahuarita, the group will also visit shelters along the U.S.–Mexico border. Through these experiences, participants will hear the stories of migrants and those who serve them, deepening their understanding of faith in action and compassionate outreach.

Shadow Rock Preschoolers go "All Around the World" for summer camp! On May 18, they began "traveling" all over the world as they learn about different cultures and countries through art and play! The preschoolers will visit a total of 11 countries, like Canada, Japan, and Africa. They've enjoyed seeing all the fun and are grateful for their staff and teachers.

Shadow Rock is honoring Pastor Ken as he prepares to lead his final worship service on Sunday, June 28. Together, we are sharing memories, expressing our gratitude, and wishing him well as he heads into the "Sunset of Retirement" and begins an exciting new chapter in life. The church invites everyone to contribute to this collection of memories. "Your personal note of remembrance to Pastor Ken is an invaluable gift from the heart." Click on this link to leave a personal message for Pastor Ken. Thank you, Pastor Ken, for your faithful service to Shadow Rock, the Southwest Conference, and the United Church of Christ. Your ministry has touched countless lives, and your legacy will continue to inspire us for years to come.

Scottsdale Congregational's Christian Education and Missions & Justice Team are joining forces to collect supplies and assemble lifesaving heat relief bags. The church keeps a stash of heat relief bags available for folks who drop by the church looking for items to help them deal with the Arizona heat. The youth will take the lead in assembling the bags, once they’ve received enough supplies. Anyone is welcome to join in to donate and assemble!

The Good Shepherd UCC will take 30 people on their first 2026 Adult Summer Field Trip! They're headed to Kitt's Peak Observatory on July 18th for a docent-led combo tours of the McMath-Pierce Solar Telescope AND 1.2 meter telescope.

On June 7, Church of the Red Rocks celebrated 35 years of handbells ringing at the church!

Thursdays at Taos UCC: All are welcome to join their Lectio Divina group on Zoom every Thursday at 7:30 am (6:30 am Arizona) and also on their weekly "7 @ 7:00" a quiet prayerful walk of blessing seven times around the Plaza (they meet on the northeast corner of Taos Plaza).

This summer, Desert Palm UCC’s sermons are exploring spirituality through film and cinema, how the themes in selected films speak to our faith, our shared life, and the world around us. Throughout June, July, and August, this sermon series will reflect on the questions, struggles, hopes, and relationships portrayed in these movies and consider how they connect with our spiritual journey, today’s current events, and our calling to live with compassion, courage, and deeper understanding. June movies are: Lady Bird, Big Miracle, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and Quartet.

Church of the Beatitudes' Mothers Day Purse Drive results: Mike and Nancy delivered 36 purses filled with toiletries to Family Promise the week before Mother's Day! A thank you to all who donated.

First Congregational Albuquerque will hold a forum after the service on Sunday, June 14th on micro-aggressions. Rev. Dr. Ryan Tate will lead this forum as they all learn how to better show up for one another in ways that reflect the truth of our belovedness and belonging.

Casas Adobes Congregational started their intergenerational online Monster Summer Fun-Day School on June 7! They'll discuss how monsters like Frankenstein and Dracula to biblical "monsters" reflect our own fears and assumptions. Conversation, learning, and faith formation for all ages.
